Devotional 135 - Season 8 - Created for Relationship
In the United States, we face a loneliness problem. With all our communication tools, we lack true community skills. (In the olden days, we called that koinonia, having all things in common.)
This need for connection is evident even in the story of creation itself.
Genesis 3:8ff teaches that God communed with Adam and Eve in a natural relationship.
Further, we need each other.
“Then the LORD God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”
“And the LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.” Genesis 2:22
Sin, vanity, egocentrism, and self-absorption keep us from one of our greatest needs: community.
The result is that we hide from God and hide our intimate selves from one another. I’m tempted to ask, “How’s that going for ya?”
Thankfully, in Christ, Colossians 9:12 sums up God's solution: "giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light." Colossians 9:12
Our So What?
Our daily prayers show gratitude to our Father for restoring our relationship with Him and with others, reminding us that we are created for community within the family He has adopted us into.
“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.” Amen
