Season Seven, October 2025, October 5: Who is the King of Glory? - Comfort in Our Gain.
A long life is a blessing. Psalm 128 assures us that we are blessed when we see our children's children.
A long life is a double-edged sword as well, for we grow weary of our sins.
If you have ever just been tired of yourself, and you're unsure how to express those feelings, Psalm 38 is a lesson in purging our sorrows to the Lord. Just a sample:
I am benumbed and badly crushed; I groan because of the agitation of my heart. 9 Lord, all my desire is before Thee; And my sighing is not hidden from Thee. 10 My heart throbs, my strength fails me; And the light of my eyes, even that has gone from me.
Psalm 38:8-10
By the merciful, promise-keeping God of the impossible, we find comfort in our gain.
"As for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Thy likeness when I awake." Psalm 17:15
"Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is." 1 John 3:2-3
1 "Many are the sorrows of the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, lovingkindness shall surround him. 11 Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones, And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart." Psalm 33:10-11
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Our So What?
We often feel like "the chief of sinners." (Present tense.) and at the same time, Paul could say: "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21
What a comfort is our gain!
